Safari at Udawalawe National Park

The Udawalawe National Park is a collection of several distinct, but inter-related geographical features. From lush forests to grasslands to a man-made reservoir, Udawalawe is among the largest of national parks in Sri Lanka. Udawalawe's main attraction is the large herd of Sri Lankan elephants who call it home. With a large area for them to roam, it is the best place in Sri Lanka to see wild elephants. Watch as these majestic, graceful, albeit playful giants interact with each other, following a complex social order within the herd. Serendib Roots'Udawalwe National Park safari will take you through hotspots for watching elephants and other animals and birds within the park. Jeeps specialised for optimised viewing will take gravel paths into the deep forest for the best viewing experience.

Tour in brief

You will first meet up with the Serendib Roots crew and your safari guide at the gate entrance to the Udawalawe National Park. For the morning half-day tour, the starting time will be at 6 a.m. while the afternoon tour begins at 2.30 p.m. After entering the national park with your guide in a jeep, you will be able to spot several species of birds and other animals that have made their homes in this sanctuary. You will be taken through most of the Udawalawe National Park, covering the wetlands, grasslands, forest patches, etc. We will make longer stops at certain watering holes for unique photography opportunities. We will stop at a designated spot overlooking a lake or river where you can get down, stretch your legs and enjoy a cup of tea/coffee prepared by our crew. Finishing the safari, either round 11 a.m. or around 6 p.m. you will be dropped at the park entrance.
